Wii Fit Out In The U.S.

The Wii Fit came out in the U.S. this week, priced at $180, and seems to have been flying off the shelves out there.

Here's a review from the New York Times: New From Wii: Not Much to Get Worked Up About.

As with pretty much all reviews (and user opinions) it labels some of the games fun, but not particularly good at getting people fit.

Oh Wii, why can't you improve my fitness?!

Day 22: Not So Good

Okay, considering I've not spoken about day 1 yet, it's a little strange that I'm on day 22 already...but whatever, it's my blog! You can't tell me what to do!

Ahem, anyway. I'm actually on day 22 since I first start using it, not day 22 of exercise with it. And today was also my two week deadling for losing three pounds. (Wii Fit tries to set you deadlines for losing a specified amount of weight within a particular time period. It does warn you not to overdo it, and it seems to like a goal of losing three pounds in two weeks. That being said, you can also just choose to maintain your current weight.)

But gasp! I'd actually gained two pounds since the last time I exercised. Shucks. Luckily, the Wii didn't scold me and demand to know the reason for this weight gain, as it did last time. (Maybe it expects it of me now?) So I then managed a whole hour of exercise to rectify this disaster.

And now I'm hungry... :(

Wii Fit Parody

There's a great Wii Fit commerical parody on YouTube:

Yoga Is Hard

If, like me, you've never before in real life (as opposed to Wii life, he he) you'll find the yoga in Wii Fit quite difficult initially. Although, on the whole, the routines are well explained, it's still a little bit difficult trying to keep your balance whilst maintaining these poses. And, in some cases, it's difficult actually figuring what the poses are all about in the first place. So you just end of swaying a lot and being told you have bad balance by the trainer.

Except, inexplicably, for one random exercise that you nail first time round. It's always the way.

A Setback

Today, for the first time since I've started using the Wii Fit, I feel insulted by it. I'm used to being given a higher body age and being told that I'm weak. (Well, in actual fact, that I have a weak balance - for it to call me weak might be a step to far.) It's even accused me of often tripping up whilst I walk down the street.

But today my body age was 13 years over my real age.

And it told that I'd put on two pounds since yesterday.

Then it demanded to know why I'd put on weight. It gave me a choice of options (including "I don't know", which is pretty much what I wanted to cry at the telly) but I chose the option of "eating too much". It chided me for this, and told me to eat more slowly.

Yeah, thanks for the advice, Wii Fit!! If you weren't a bit of white plastic, you'd find it hard not too eat too much of a delicious spicy chicken stir fry too!
